Former India Women cricketer Diana Edulji feels that Harmanpreet Kaur has set a bad example for her teammates after his controversial behavior in a recent ODI match against Bangladesh Women. Diana Edulji also feels that Harmanpreet Kaur’s acts can impact the team culture in the future.
Unsatisfied with the umpire’s decision during the match, Harmanpreet Kaur hit the stumps with her bat when she was adjudged LBW in India Women vs Bangladesh Women’s 3rd ODI. She also lashed out at umpires during the post-match presentation.

Harmanpreet Kaur Isn’t First Cricketer To Show Dissent: Diana Edulji
Former Indian all-rounder Diana Edulji expressed her opinions on Harmanpreet Kaur’s controversy. In her column for The Indian Express, the 67-year-old player said that Kaur is not the first cricketer to show dissent.
“Cricketers reacting to a bad umpiring decision, though not ideal, is nothing new. To a certain extent, one can be pardoned since when you get out in a crunch match, sometimes it is difficult to control the emotions.
Harmanpreet isn’t the first cricketer to show dissent and the ICC rightly imposed sanctions on her. I understand wrong decisions were made. We have seen wrong decisions in the past too, not only in women’s cricket but in men’s cricket too,” the Mumbai-born player said.

Edulji, who played 20 Tests and 34 ODIs for India, also added that Kaur’s acts have set a bad example for her teammates. According to Diana Edulji, juniors look up to seniors and this event can impact team culture in the future.
“However, what happened post-game was not needed, all the more because Harmanpreet is the Indian captain. She has set a bad example for her teammates.
I say that because juniors look up to seniors and this, over a period of time, can impact the team culture. This makes Harmanpreet’s behaviour all the more unacceptable,” Edulji, who represented India from 1976 to 1993, further wrote in her column.
For her acts, Kaur is also expected to be fined 75 percent of her match fees. BCCI and ICC are yet to respond on the matter. Meanwhile, the India Women vs Bangladesh Women ODI series ended in a 1-1 draw, after the decider 3rd ODI ended in a tie.
