Indian Women’s T20I skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, will be donning the captain’s hat for a team in the Hong Kong FairBreak T20 Invitational. The tournament is being conducted by Cricket Hong Kong.

It is also the world’s first privately-funded tournament in Women’s cricketing history. The FairBreak T20 Invitational is an International Cricket Council (ICC) certified tournament that will be conducted next year.

The schedule for the same hasn’t been finalized, but the tourney will be held from May 1, 2022, to May 15, 2022. It will consist of six teams with plenty of world-class players from across the countries set to take part.

Harmanpreet Kaur is one of them, and she will be leading a side in the tournament. Taking to Twitter, FairBreak confirmed the same.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s response to the announcement:

“WBBL experience will matter for the World Cup” – Smriti Mandhana

India Women’s team opener, Smriti Mandhana, revealed that she’ll stay in Australia and play in the Women’s Big Bash League (BBL) in order to gain some match time before next year’s ODI World Cup. Speaking to ‘Sydney Morning Herald’, Mandhana said:

This year, we had a window, and we were already here and had done our 14 days quarantine. It’s better to stay and play some more cricket rather than go back. We have a World Cup coming up, and we don’t have a BBL in our country, so that it will be of benefit and a lot of experience for the eight girls in the camp, and that experience will definitely count when we are back playing for India.

India lost the series to Australia in their recently concluded tour. The historic one-off pink-ball Test ended in a draw courtesy of incessant rainfall.
