Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty has rejected the allegations of misbehaving with juniors, including claims of hitting them, made by senior pacer Jahanara Alam. While responding to the accusations, Nigar Sultana also dragged India’s World Cup-winning captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, and her comments went viral.

Jahanara alleged that Nigar Sultana had physically assaulted younger teammates. She claimed that such behaviour was not new and that juniors had been mistreated repeatedly. The Bangladesh Cricket Board dismissed the accusations and expressed full confidence in Joty, the squad, and the team management.

Am I Harmanpreet Kaur? - Nigar Sultana Joty

Nigar Sultana Joty recalled Harmanpreet Kaur smashing the stumps with her bat. She said that, like hitting her own bat or helmet, any such actions are limited to her personal space and never directed at others. Joty urged people to ask her teammates if she had ever acted violently.

“Why would I hit anyone? I mean, why would I strike the stumps with my bat? Am I Harmanpreet, that I would go around hitting the stumps like that? Why would I do it? In my personal space, if I’m cooking or something, I might bang my bat around, I might hit my helmet — that’s my own business," Joty said in an interview with Daily Cricket.

"But why would I do something like that to someone else? Why would I get physical? Just because someone says so? You can ask the other players or anyone else whether I’ve ever done anything like that,” she added.

Harmanpreet Kaur Smashed the Stumps During India’s 2023 Tour of Bangladesh

Harmanpreet Kaur had smashed the stumps with her bat during India’s 2023 tour of Bangladesh. In the final ODI, she reacted angrily to an LBW decision and later criticized the umpiring as “pathetic.” Kaur even remarked that the umpires should join the teams for photos during the trophy ceremony.

India tied that match by one run, ending the series 1-1, but Harmanpreet Kaur’s behaviour overshadowed the result. She was handed a two-match ban for her actions. Sultana’s reference to Harmanpreet came while dismissing Jahanara Alam’s allegations.

Notably, Harmanpreet Kaur guided the Indian team to their maiden ICC trophy during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at home, where the Women in Blue defeated South Africa in the final.

I’m Not That Kind of Girl at All - Nigar Sultana Joty

Nigar Sultana questioned the credibility and logic behind Jahanara Alam’s accusation. She stated that if any junior player had truly been assaulted, they would have reported it to the team management, coaches, or officials present with the squad.

“The way I’ve been described in front of everyone — I’m not that kind of girl at all. First, I heard that Jahanara apu has made an allegation about me, saying that someone called her in Australia and said, ‘Please save us, Jyoti apu is beating us and finishing us off.’"

"What I’m trying to say is: someone who hasn’t been here for six or seven years and has gone off to Australia — if I really beat someone or harmed someone in any way, is there no team management, no manager, no coaching staff? Am I the ultimate authority then?" she questioned.

"What I mean is, if this player had a problem, why would she call Jahanara apu all the way in Australia? She could’ve shared it with anyone here,” Joty added.
