Harry Brook blames his own ‘STUPID SHOTS’ for horror show in Ashes 2025-26

England batter Harry Brook has been one of the players who have defined Brendon McCullum's Bazball era with grace; however, amid England's tragic downfall in the Ashes, the batter has accepted playing 'shocking' shots, leading to his own dismissal. Brook has a clearer motive to be more focused and composed at Adelaide.
England are not having their most fancy tournament in the ongoing edition of The Ashes. The England team, which is widely popular for its unique batting tactics, has struggled in the same area due to its overaggressive batting style.
From time to time, English batters have lost their wickets at very loose deliveries and have then cursed themselves in this series. Though the England coach has been determined to keep up with the fierce approach, some of the players have started having second thoughts.
"Learn when to absorb the pressure a little bit," Harry Brook talks about change in approach ahead of Adelaide Test
England have struggled to maintain their stunning show in the Ashes against Australia due to the Bazball strategies failing on the bouncing tracks of the island nation. One of the players on whom England had pinned their hopes was Harry Brook, the English vice-captain.
Brook has averaged 24.50 in the summer Ashes, scoring just 98 runs in 4 Test innings in Australia. He might have been unlucky to glove a ball down the leg side in the first innings of the first Test, but he has then been criticised for throwing his wickets away on wider balls.
Harry Brook, the right-handed batter, admitted that he may need to change somewhat for the rest of the series. "Sometimes we've got to rein it in a little bit," Brook said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.
"Learn when to absorb the pressure a little bit more and then realise when the opportunity arises to put pressure back on them. I feel like I probably haven't done that as well as I usually do in this series so far. There's no reason behind that, I just haven't identified them situations well enough," said Brook.
"No, they were shocking shots," Harry Brook admits his mindlessness in the Ashes
He was also questioned if the bouncy Australian wickets largely contributed to the dismissals, but Brook bluntly responded, "No, they were shocking shots."
He went on to admit almost every blunder he had made on those bouncy tracks, as he revealed that in Perth, he almost went for a drive against a delivery, which was nearly a bouncer. Another eminent proof of his poor batting was when he got out in an attempt to hit a six in Brisbane.
"I'll be the first person to stand up and say that they were bad shots. I don't regret them, but if I were there again, I'd try and play it slightly differently," said Brook.
"Everybody realises that, and we've just got to stand up," Harry Brook confirmed
After their second consecutive humiliating loss at the Gabba, England skipper Ben Stokes said that his team needs to stand up and be noticed and claimed that there is no room for weak men in his dressing room.
The England vice-captain also admitted that England have not been their finest in pressure situations in this series, and hence they would have to read the game slightly better to stage a fightback.
"Just have a little bit of grit and determination about you. That might be the time to try and put it back on them. That might be the time to absorb," confirmed Harry Brook.
