Harry Brook Bought By Delhi Capitals For Rs 4 Crores In IPL Auction 2024

Delhi Capitals have secured the services of England star Harry Brook for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batsman had registered himself at a base price of Rs 2 crores.

Delhi Capitals showed an interest in the batsman straightaway and began the bidding process for him. Rajasthan Royals soon joined the bidding process and matched Delhi Capitals’ bids for a while before giving up at Rs 4 crores. The Delhi-based outfit will be hoping that Harry Brook finally lives up to the expectations and performs well in IPL 2024.

The right-handed batsman made his debut in the Indian Premier League after impressing in franchise cricket and the international arena. In 2022, the right-handed batsman smashed a fine century while playing for Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, becoming the youngest-ever centurion in the competition’s history.

It was followed by a fine season in international cricket that saw him star with the bat during England’s historic 3-0 win in the Test series in Pakistan. He had scored three centuries in the series and was the highest run-scorer. Earlier this year, he became the first batter to reach 800 Test runs in just nine innings. Those 800 runs came off just 803 deliveries.

The impressive displays in PSL and the tour of Pakistan saw him earn his maiden IPL contract in December 2022. Sunrisers Hyderabad secured Harry Brook’s services for R 13.25 crore. He, however, failed to live up to the expectations of the IPL.

In his first three outings, the right-hander registered scores of 13, 3, and 13 before scoring a century against Kolkata Knight Riders and becoming the first-ever player to score a century in IPL as well as PSL. He, however, failed to build on that century and eventually finished the tournament with a modest 190 runs in 11 matches before being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
