The England Cricket Board (ECB) has named young batter Harry Brook as the new vice-captain for England's men's white-ball team two days before the start of the T20I series against India. Harry Brook will serve as vice-captain for the team's upcoming white-ball series against India and the Champions Trophy 2025.

Harry Brook, who has experience leading Yorkshire in the Blast (2022) and Northern Superchargers in the Hundred (2024), got his first taste of international captaincy in the absence of Jos Buttler during the ODI series against Australia in September 2024, where the England cricket team lost the series 2-3.

Harry Brook Appointed England Men's White-Ball Vice-Captain

Harry Brook, who is touted as the next big player in world cricket, has replaced senior all-rounder Moeen Ali as England's new vice-captain for the ODI and T20I teams. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed Brook's appointment on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday, January 21.

The 25-year-old middle-order batter will serve as Jos Buttler’s deputy in the upcoming series against India. Moeen Ali retired from international cricket following his exclusion from the home series against Australia.

"Introducing our new men's white-ball vice captain, @Harry_Brook_88 ! 👏," wrote the caption.

The 25-year-old batter was preferred for the vice-captaincy role over all-rounder Liam Livingstone and wicketkeeper-batter Phil Salt. Livingstone has also led the team in ODIs, and Salt briefly served as England's T20I captain in two matches last year.

Harry Brook Made His International Debut for England in 2022

Harry Brook, who made his international debut for England in a T20I against the West Indies on January 26, 2022, has quickly become a key player in the team.

Brook has played 20 ODIs and 39 T20Is, scoring 719 runs in ODIs and 707 runs in T20Is. Brook has also excelled in Test cricket, scoring 2,281 runs in 24 matches. The right-handed batter has scored nine centuries and 18 fifties across formats and conditions.

Jos Buttler to Play as Specialist Batter, Confirms Brendon McCullum

Brook will be part of England's squad for the upcoming five-match T20I and three-match ODI series against India, which will be the final assignment for both teams before the 2025 Champions Trophy. Brook's last white-ball appearance was on September 29, where he captained the team and scored 72 runs.

The series will begin on January 22 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, under the leadership of Jos Buttler. After the T20I and ODI series, both teams will travel to Dubai and Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, which starts on February 19. England's opening match of the tournament will be against their Ashes rivals, Australia.

Jos Buttler will play as a specialist batter in the upcoming T20I and ODI series against India. This decision was confirmed by England's new white-ball head coach, Brendon McCullum, during the team’s pre-match press conference in Kolkata on Monday.
