Harry Brook speaks on the Hundred row: Pakistan players have been in trouble after the reports arrived from England that they will not be part of the Hundred auction in the upcoming season. There are reports from the BBC that the Pakistan cricketers are not being taken into consideration by the India-owned side of the tournament.

Four of the eight franchises in this season have been owned by Indian businessmen. The Manchester Super Giants, MI London, Southern Brave, and Sunrisers Leeds, who are partially owned by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, may take the same step as the IPL. In the IPL, all players from Pakistan have been banned due to political constraints between India and Pakistan.

I would say Pakistan have been a great cricket nation - Harry Brook

However, the England Cricket Board (ECB) chief executive Richard Gould has already warned the Indian owners about exempting the Pakistan players, and he also expects “players from all nations to be selected for all teams.” Now, England captain Harry Brook has shared his views on the ongoing rift and stated that it would be a shame not to see Pakistan players in The Hundred.

Harry Brook said, “Our main focus now is what's coming up in the T20 World Cup. It's not really any of our business to be honest. I would say Pakistan have been a great cricket nation for many years. I think there's about 50, 60 players in the auction and it would be a shame to not see some of them in there.”

“There's some amazing cricketers and they bring some great crowds as well. It would be a shame to not see some of the Pakistan players in there and make the tournament and competition even better," Harry Brook added.

Pakistan players' future in franchise cricket looks grim

In the SA20, which is South Africa’s biggest franchise league, no Pakistan players feature in this tournament, as all six teams in the competition are owned by Indians, who have stakes in the IPL. The Pakistan players feature in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), ILT20, and the Major League Cricket (MLC). As some of the franchises in these competitions are also owned by India-based business people.

In case the Pakistan players do not get a chance to play, this will again create a row between India and Pakistan. Previously, only two Men in Green cricketers have featured in the Hundred: Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim.

Will England qualify for the last four?

England has qualified for the Super 8 stages of the competition and will be facing Sri Lanka in their first game on Sunday. The Three Lions will look to continue their good form and qualify for the semi-final stages of the tournament.

While Pakistan is set to play New Zealand on Saturday in the opener of the Super 8 matches at the R Premedasa Stadium, Colombo. England and Pakistan are in the same group and will face each other on Tuesday, 24th February.
