A lighthearted moment involving young India pacer Harshit Rana, Virat Kohli, and his wife, Anushka Sharma, has hit the headlines, giving fans a rare glimpse into the fun side of the dressing room. Harshit Rana is currently playing in the ODI series against New Zealand alongside Virat Kohli.
Harshit Rana’s funny first meeting with Anushka Sharma
Ahead of the three-match ODI series decider against New Zealand in Indore on January 18, Rana recalled his first-ever meeting with Anushka Sharma and how it turned into an unexpectedly funny moment.
Nervous and respectful, the young fast bowler addressed Anushka as “Ma’am” when he met her for the first time. That instantly caught Kohli’s attention, as shared by Rana.
Well, the former Indian captain instantly stepped in to make the youngster feel comfortable as he told him to call Anushka ‘bhabhi’ and there is no need for such formality. Harshit, still unsure and meeting the Bollywood actress for the very first time, tried to explain himself.

Kohli turns an awkward moment into laughter
That only made Kohli turn the moment into a joke. Virat teasingly told Anushka that Harshit Rana had been throwing champagne on him outside and was now addressing her as "Ma’am," leaving everyone laughing. The moment became Harshit’s most memorable experience with the power couple.
Virat Kohli was quoted as saying by MensXP: “I was meeting Anushka for the first time. I called her Ma'am. Virat told me not to call her like that and call her bhabhi. I said I was meeting her for the first time. So, he told her that I was throwing champagne on him outside, and now he is calling you Ma'am. He is very funny.”

Meanwhile, Harshit also reflected on how special it was to share the field with Kohli during his Test debut. He made his Test debut against Australia in Perth in November 2024, which later turned out to be Kohli’s final Test series. The Delhi lad admitted that debuting alongside one of the biggest names in world cricket made the moment extremely special.
Rana further added, “I would not say lucky, but it was a big thing, as it was his last Test tour. So, I got an opportunity to be there. He is such a big player, and every kid starts cricket looking at him. And I made my debut with him. I also have a picture with him after the match on my debut. I will always remember that moment.”

The fast bowler also opened up about his perception of the senior players like Kohli and Hardik Pandya, and that completely changed after joining the Indian cricket team. Earlier, Rana believed that Kohli and Pandya were aggressive and intimidating all the time, but the reality is different.
Rana signed off by saying, “I had a perception regarding Virat and Hardik that they would be aggressive because I had seen them on TV only. I thought they scared everyone. But when I met them in real life, they were very funny and are totally different in real life.”
