Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali has lashed out at the PCB for player mismanagement after the team's early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025. Hasan Ali narrated an incident when the coach wasn't sure whether he was dropped from the team or rested.

Pakistan cricket is going through one of their toughest times recently as they suffered an early exit from their home Champions Trophy campaign. It was an embarrassing performance from the Men in Green as they struggled to match the best sides in the world.

Why is Shaheen Afridi playing in BPL when he is rested, asks Hasan Ali

During a podcast on Ultra Edge, Hasan Ali asked the Pakistan Cricket Board why Shaheen Afridi played the BPL when he was rested during the Test series. He asked the board about the difference between resting the players and dropping them.

"You dropped your prime bowler Shaheen (Afridi) and you say that you have rested him. If he is rested, then why he is playing BPL (Bangladesh Premier League)," the right-arm quick argued.

"I've never understood whether we rest players or drop them. If you've dropped someone, we tell the player that we are resting you. Rest means whether it is for one series or for one match and he will come back," he added.

Shaheen Afridi wasn't a part of Pakistan's Test squad for the South Africa tour. When asked about his exclusion, the PCB claimed that he was rested ahead of a hectic international schedule. However, the left-arm quick was given the NOC to play in the BPL at the same time.

Hasan Ali slams PCB for player mismanagement

Further speaking in the same podcast, Hasan Ali narrated an incident when he got dropped from the Pakistan team. He claims to have received different views from the coach, the captain, and the national selector regarding the reason for his ouster.

"When I got dropped, I received three different views. Babar (Azam) told me that I have not performed well. I said, 'fair enough'. A selector said that we want to try out younger players," Hasan revealed.

"Head coach told me that they are resting me. I went to his room and asked him to make it clear that I have these two opinions. He said that we are resting you. I told him that I'll rest in this series and come back in the next series," he added.

Hasan Ali further asked the coach to be clear in his statement. However, the coach gave a confusing statement that they were dropping him but asked him to consider it as a rest only.

"Then, he said that no, no, we are dropping you. I asked them to clear it out again whether they are resting me or dropping me. He said, 'Hum aap ko drop kar rahe hain lekin aap samjhein aap ko rest kara rahe hain (We are dropping you but you consider it as a rest)’," said Ali.

Hasan Ali's last international match

Hasan Ali last played an international match in May 2024 just before the T20 World Cup in June. His last international game was a T20I against Ireland in Dublin. Since then, he hasn't played any international matches and has been ignored totally by the selectors.

He has impressive ODI numbers with 100 wickets in 66 matches at an average of 30.84. In T20Is, he has picked up 60 wickets in 51 matches at an average of 24.26 and an economy rate of 8.45.

Pakistan cricket is likely to go through some big changes after the team's disappointing Champions Trophy campaign recently. The functioning of the team was severely criticized after the team finished their campaign winless.
