Hasan Ali dropped a simple catch and handed his Pakistan teammate Mohammad Rizwan a lifeline during the BBL 2025-26 match between the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades. The miss came in the opening over and denied India-born cricketer Jerrssis Wadia a three-wicket haul in his first over.

The Adelaide Strikers won the bat flip and chose to bowl first against the Melbourne Renegades at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday, January 17. The Strikers made two changes to their playing XI, bringing in Wadia and Henry Thornton. Meanwhile, the Renegades added Caleb Jewell, Michael Archer, and Callum Stow.

The left-arm spinner struck on the very first ball. He removed Seifert for a golden duck after the batter edged the ball to Alex Carey, who took a sharp catch behind the stumps.

Wadia followed it up with another wicket on the next delivery. Jake Fraser-McGurk chipped the ball straight back to the bowler and was also dismissed for a golden duck. Wadia had two wickets in two balls.

With Wadia on a hat-trick, Mohammad Rizwan walked in at number four. Rizwan survived the hat-trick ball by pushing the delivery safely into the field.

Jerrssis Wadia Denied Third Wicket After Hasan Ali Drops Sitter

Jerrssis Wadia came close to a dream opening over but missed out on a third wicket due to a dropped catch. Mohammad Rizwan stepped out to hit over mid-off but mistimed the shot. The ball went straight to Hasan Ali, who dropped a simple chance, allowing Rizwan to survive and take a single.

It was still a strong start for the Adelaide Strikers, as Wadia finished the first over with two wickets for just three runs. The dropped catch denied him a third wicket in the opening over of the match.

Rizwan scored 17 runs from 14 balls, including one four and one six, before Henry Thornton dismissed him in the fourth over. Thornton bowled a slower delivery, and Rizwan mistimed a sweep shot toward deep backward square leg.

Wadia completed the job in the field. He moved forward and took a clean low catch to send Rizwan back. The dismissal handed the Melbourne Renegades their third wicket inside the powerplay.
