Veteran India wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha has revealed that an incident took place before the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 that led to him making the decision not to represent Bengal ever again in his career.

The 37-year-old Siliguri-born wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha didn’t participate in the Ranji Trophy 2022 league stage due to “personal reasons” and later it was reported that the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had questioned his commitment to Bengal.

Saha was named in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy 2022 squad for the knockout phase of the tournament but he didn’t want to play and he had asked the CAB to give him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for other states.

Meanwhile, Saha has said that he was hurt by the nasty comments passed at him and then he decided not to represent Bengal anymore.

“Before the IPL, an incident happened and then and there, I decided not to play for Bengal anymore. Having played so long for Bengal, if someone hurled nasty comments at you, it hurts.

“I was hurt, personally, and that’s why I decided to change my state. I have talked to a number of states, but nothing is finalised as of now,” Saha was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with Sports Today.

I don’t think I will be picked – Wriddhiman Saha on his selection in the Indian team

Saha was dropped from the Indian Test team along with Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ishant Sharma ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka at home. Also, the head coach Rahul Dravid had informed Saha that he will not be picked as the team management wants to groom a young wicket-keeper for the future.

Meanwhile, Saha said that he is not expecting to get picked in India’s Test squad as if the BCCI selectors wanted him they would have named him in India’s squad for the one-off Test against England.

“I don’t think I will be picked because the coach and chief selector have already clarified on it. And if they had to take me, they would have been given me a chance on the tour of England after I performed well in the IPL. For now, I’m only focussed on playing cricket until I enjoy playing the game,” he added.
