Feels great to be able to get that Q on the board - Shubman Gill
Bowling first in the match, GT bowlers were, as usual, brilliant, and they restricted DC to 199/3 despite an amazing century from KL Rahul. Chasing the target, Sai Sudharsan (108*) and Shubman Gill (93*) demolished the DC bowling unit and completed the run-chase in 19 overs.
Speaking after the match, Shubman Gill expressed delight over the Gujarat Titans booking a spot in the playoffs. He said:
"Feels great to be able to get that Q on the board. Still two important games for us, getting the momentum into the playoffs will be very important."
He has been in tremendous form this season - Shubman Gill hails Sai Sudharsan
Shubman Gill further said that he only focuses on leadership when his team his fielding, and while batting, he only thinks like a normal batter. He elaborated:
"Feels amazing, I have talked about this couple of times, when I'm batting, I want to play and think as a batsman, not as a captain. Last year was a learning for me as I was captain for the 1st time, the back end last season I learnt that."
"(on what they did during the break) We were right back into the game, we were practising. Our fielding had been below-par, we had a bit of time to reflect on that and work on our fielding."
Shubman Gill also showered rich praise on the left-handed batter Sai Sudharsan for his consistent performances in IPL 2025. He elaborated:
"(on Sudharsan) He has been in tremendous form this season, the way he has been able to convert the starts. You are seeing the conditions and the situation, we talk about finishing the game and not leave it to anyone else because on a wicket like this a couple of wickets could create pressure. A the halfway mark we felt we gave 10-15 runs extra, they batted well, the ball was spinning. (if he was in the gym during the break) Not much, actually I got sick, the break helped."
How did GT perform in the previous IPL match against DC?
Gujarat Titans produced a great run chase to defeat Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets in their previous IPL 2025 clash on April 19 in Ahmedabad.
Opting to field first, GT did not have a very good outing with the ball. Prasidh Krishna was the standout performer, finishing with sensational figures of 4/41 in his four overs and running through DC's top and middle order. He dismissed KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Axar Patel, and Vipraj Nigam to put DC on the back foot.
Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Ishant Sharma, and Sai Kishore also chipped in with a wicket each to reduce the Delhi Capitals to 203/8.
Chasing the target, GT got off to a good start despite losing Shubman Gill early. Sai Sudharsan's brilliant 36 off 21 set the tempo, but it was Jos Buttler who took control and played a match-winning knock of 97* runs.
He built crucial partnerships with Sherfane Rutherford and Rahul Tewatia, who helped the Gujarat Titans complete the run-chase in 19.2 overs and clinch the win.
