He Just Needs To Get His First Hundred And Then A Lot More Will Follow - Sunil Gavaskar On Shubman Gill

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar believes that it is only a matter of time that Shubman Gill scores a test century and he will score a lot more in the coming years. Shubman Gill showed a lot of character in his first innings in England and played a beautiful hand to give India the edge over New Zealand.
He scored 28 in 64 balls with three boundaries and was dismissed by Neil Wagner in his first over to be caught by the keeper BJ Watling. More than the runs, the way Shubman Gill handled the New Zealand seamers at the start was more pleasing and it would certainly take his confidence to the top of the mark.
“The First Hundred Is Always The Toughest One” – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar mentioned in the commentary box that the first hundred will always be tough with converting those half-centuries into a century. He reasoned out that when the batsmen reach the 70-run mark, they tend to be aggressive and take a lot of risks rather than sticking to their normal game. He was very confident that Shubman Gill will start scoring a lot of centuries after he gets the first one.
“The first hundred is always the toughest one because that journey from scoring a half-century to reaching three figures is not that easy. Batsmen tend to feel settled somewhere around the 70-80 run mark and start taking the bowlers on and lose their wicket in that way. He just needs to get his first hundred and then a lot more will follow,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
India In A Really Good Position At The End Of Day Two
India lost three wickets at the 88 run mark after a splendid start from the openers and the onus was on the Indian skipper to take the game through. He joined with Ajinkya Rahane to put on a battling partnership of 58 and they kept taking those quick singles. They took advantage of every loose ball being bowled by New Zealand and were happy to leave the balls in the off-stump line.
India will resume day three at 146 runs for the loss of three wickets and a big partnership might be on the cards.
