Sarfaraz Khan is currently playing just the fourth Test in his career. He was also in the squad for the Test series against Bangladesh but KL Rahul was preferred over him by the team management.
However, Shubman Gill's late injury allowed him to find a place in the Playing XI. He was given the batting spot of No. 4 with Virat Kohli moving up the order to No. 3. Sarfaraz was finally dismissed for a magnificent score of 150 off 195 balls.
Sarfaraz Khan's score in first innings
In the first innings, Sarfaraz was dismissed for a duck after playing a poor shot as India were shot out for just 46. Five Indian batters were gone for ducks in this innings, which also included Sarfaraz.
But the youngster showed tremendous temperament to score a game-changing hundred in the second innings. His innings propelled India to a highly satisfying position. India will now look to consolidate this strength and give a competitive target to New Zealand in the fourth innings.
