Abhishek Sharma, the young Indian south[paw joined an elite list of Indian batters who have scored a T20I century. What was amazing was that he scored his century in just his second T20I match after being dismissed in his T20I debut for a duck.
His 47-ball 100 took India to a score of 234/2 which is India's highest T20I score against Zimbabwe. The opposition was then bowled out for 134 as India won the match by 100 runs to make a comeback in the series.
He took just 13 balls to get to his hundred from his fifty and became the fourth youngest Indian batter to score a T20I century aged 23 Years 307 days. He has changed his fortunes within 24 hours of getting out on a duck in his maiden T20I.
Abhishek Sharma got to his 100 with three consecutive sixes as he became the first player in international cricket history to bring up a century in that manner. After his maiden T20I ton, Rajkumar Sharma, Abhishek's father spoke to Indian Express from Chandigarh and opened up on the pep talk he gave his son after he was dismissed for a duck in his international debut.

“He was a bit dejected. You can’t blame him. When you get out on naught on your debut, you do question your approach. He was blaming himself for his six-hitting obsession. I reminded him that his six-hitting ability has helped him reach here. Why change your style now, stick to your strength,” Rajkumar said.
His father further revealed how India's stand-in coach VVS Laxman motivated him after his failure in the first T20I. Sharma was named in the Indian T20I squad for the Zimbabwe tour based on his IPL 2024 performance. He scored 484 runs in 16 innings with a strike rate of 204.02 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
“Captain (Shubman) and coach (Laxman) saab also had a word with him after the match. Laxman sir told him, ‘You were thrashing all the international bowlers in the IPL. Treat it as any IPL match, take your time, get acclimatized, and then no one will stop you" he said.
“With Shubman being the captain, it has also helped. The duo has opened for Punjab since their U-14 days and now they are opening for India. Mark my words, these two will forge a destructive opening partnership and will win many games for India in the future,” added Rajkumar.
Abhishek Sharma overtook Rohit Sharma during his knock as he has now hit 47 sixes in 2024. He is also among the quickest to get to his 100 from his fifty. He maintained a strike rate of over 200 throughout the time he batted during his innings. In between his innings, he got a life when he was batting on 27 and he cashed in on his good luck.
The young Indian team made a roaring comeback in the second T20I on the back of Sharma's maiden T20I ton. After putting up the mammoth score, Muhesk Kumar and Avesh Khan picked up three wickets each and Ravi Bishnoi took two.
