The premier India National Cricket Team fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj, has made a massive revelation on the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah skipping the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Mohammed Siraj stated that Jasprit Bumrah risked a career-ending injury had he featured in the last Test of the five-match series against England at the Kennington Oval in London.
Jasprit Bumrah shone in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
The World No.1 bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, headed into the five-match Test series in England with a pre-decided plan of playing just three games. This development was made public by the BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar at the pre-series press conference.
However, at that time, the chairman of selectors didn't reveal in which particular games Bumrah would feature in and stated that they would make a decision on a match-to-match basis.
In the series opener at Headingley in Leeds, Bumrah was part of India's Playing XI, and the Shubman Gill-led side lost the game by 5 wickets. Despite the defeat, Bumrah was rested for the next match at Edgbaston in Birmingham, and India won by 336 runs.
Bumrah, then, returned to the side for the Lord's Test and India again suffered a 22-run loss. With the series on the line, Bumrah decided to play the next Test, the fourth, at Old Trafford in Manchester, and the game ended in a draw.
Heading into the Kennington Oval in London, the series scoreline was 2-1 in England's favour, but Bumrah didn't feature in that game. However, Mohammed Siraj showed an unbelievable performance and helped the team register a remarkable 6-run win. Overall, Bumrah picked 14 wickets in three matches.
Bumrah bhai doesn’t worry about outside opinion - Mohammed Siraj
Speaking at the Indian Express' Idea Exchange, Mohammed Siraj said that Jasprit Bumrah doesn't worry about the outside as his serious back injury and surgery don't allow him to risk his body, which could break down.
"Bumrah bhai doesn’t worry about outside opinion. He had a serious back injury and a big surgery. Had he bowled in that match, one can’t say whether he would have bowled again or not, if he had broken down. It’s that serious. That injury is very sensitive. His bowling action is very difficult. He is such an important bowler for India and his availability is so important — from the Asia Cup to next year’s World Cup and so on," he said.
"Indian fans should understand that he is the backbone of the team and be rest assured that whenever possible, he will definitely play. Jassi bhai took the perfect decision."
Earlier, I thought all this comes naturally and if I went to the gym, I’d get injured - Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj further rejected Andy Roberts' take on gym training being one of the key reasons behind the fast bowlers getting injured and explained:
"Earlier, I thought all this comes naturally and if I went to the gym, I’d get injured. In 2018, I met Soham bhai (Shah, India physio). He said that gym is very important as a fast bowler and guided me on what to do and when to do, managing my workload. He also explained that I have to take protein; he told me that ‘when you are bowling, when your body is tired, you should take BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acids). When you sleep, you should take magnesium, which will help you recover.
"The next day, you will be able to do the same things. If you don’t do this, your body will be fatigued, you will be prone to injuries’. My training routine is the same otherwise. I do the same things that I did in 2018. If I change my training, I feel that something will happen to my body."
