Mohit Sharma has recently recalled one of the most thrilling moments of IPL 2024 from a high-stakes clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Mohit Sharma revealed how they outsmarted Suryakumar Yadav in that game. Shubman Gill had unleashed a blistering 120 off just 60 balls, taking the Gujarat Titans (GT) to a mammoth total of 233 on the board at the home ground.

Chasing the target, the Mumbai Indians (MI) needed a monumental innings, and the pressure was squarely on Suryakumar to perform. With two quick wickets down for just 21 runs, Suryakumar decided to take matters into his own hands, leading a spectacular counter-attack against the Gujarat Titans (GT).

Mohit Sharma reflects on dismissing Suryakumar Yadav in thrilling IPL 2024 clash

After smashing a quickfire fifty, the MI batter had left everyone, including the Gujarat Titans (GT) camp, to think that he would finish the game. It seemed like the game was slipping away from the Gujarat Titans (GT), as Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma looked set to pull off an incredible chase for the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Meanwhile, Mohit Sharma, watching the onslaught from the field, admitted that at that moment, the Gujarat Titans (GT) were convinced that they lost the game. But then the turning point came, all thanks to the pacer.

After the 10th over, GT captain Hardik Pandya handed the ball to Mohit Sharma, the experienced campaigner who had become a key figure in GT's death bowling strategy, and it was time for him to deliver in the crunch situation.

With Suryakumar in dangerous mode, GT’s plans seemed useless, and Mohit Sharma understood that no strategy could bring a batter to the knees in such devastating touch. Still, Mohit kept his nerve under immense pressure to complete the task of removing one of the most dangerous T20 batters.

His calm and composed demeanor helped the GT pacer turn the tide for the hosts in that IPL 2024 clash in Ahmedabad. Mohit’s masterful variations and precise execution turned the match on its head, leaving the MI stunned as he finally dismissed Suryakumar for 61 runs.

You cannot really plan against Surya: Mohit Sharma

However, the pacer admitted that he and his team were just lucky to dismiss India’s current T20I captain. Now, Mohit Sharma said that nobody can really plan against Suryakumar, saying he would destroy all plans in one over, and even he had doubts of being hammered for six sixes in an over by him.

Mohit Sharma said on the '2 Sloggers' podcast: “Before my spell, Surya and Tilak were batting really well. I used to bowl after 10 overs only that season. Before that, I think 2 or 3 wickets were down; they were batting in a way that it looked like they would chase it down with two overs to spare. They were in a different zone altogether. You cannot really plan against Surya. He will destroy all your plans in one go. So, I had a clear plan in my mind.”

Mohit Sharma added, “He hit me for a 90-meter six over mid-wicket in the first ball. I had to bowl those remaining 6 deliveries like you bowl in Test matches. I had to pitch the ball right up there. The second delivery, Surya tried to play a paddle scoop. The length was perfect, and it hit the top of the bat. I remember after that delivery, when we were celebrating, I told everybody that we were lucky. I didn't say that our plan worked. I said that we were lucky.”
