Indian Cricket Team is all set to get a new Selection Committee as BCCI has sacked the Chetan Sharma-led Selection Panel. The deadline for the applications closed on 28th November. The newly appointed BCCI President Roger Binny would be hoping to win ICC tournaments which have been eluding Team India.

BCCI is all set to appoint a Cricket Advisory Committee for the new selection panel. The main agenda for BCCI for would be the high-voltage Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 as that series will decide India’s fate in the World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23).

Big Names Apply for the Post

Former cricketers like Hemang Badani who currently is with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)  is considered to be the favorite to lead the panel. Nayan Mongia, the former wicketkeeper batter is another candidate who is well experienced as he has been a part of the selection committee for Baroda at the senior and junior levels.  Shiv Sunder Das who is with Punjab as a batting coach has also applied for the post as he also was part of NCA and was the batting coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team.

Stern Task for BCCI

Chetan Sharma led selection panel can also re-apply for the post but it looks unlikely that they will apply. Till the new selection panel gets appointed, the Chetan Sharma committee will continue to serve. BCCI would be well aware of the fact that they need to manage the workload of players as there is non-stop cricket action scheduled in the next couple of years.

Under the tenure of Sourav Ganguly, team India became a force to reckon with in Test Cricket. Under the new President, we can expect that Test Cricket may get a bit more prioritized. It would be interesting to see who becomes the new Chief Selector as this time there is stiff competition.
