He's Got A Great Record In The Sub-Continent - Andrew McDonald Reveals Glenn Maxwell In The Fray For Test Slot
Australian team’s head coach Andrew McDonald has revealed that Glenn Maxwell is very much on the management’s mind as they decide on the squad which will tour the sub-continent in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 cycle.
Australia will play against Sri Lanka in a 2-match Test series which will be part of a month-long tour starting on June 07, a few days after the completion of the IPL 2022 season.
While the squad that toured Pakistan is still their strongest one, McDonald is open to making changes considering Maxwell has a good record in the sub-continent and he is also one of their best players of spin.

“It is always a contemplation (to include Maxwell) and I think with 32 players being there (in Sri Lanka) at the one point in time all options are still open. So you never know what is going to happen.”
“He has got a great record in the sub-continent, and in India in particular with that hundred in Ranchi and he can also give us off-spin,” McDonald told SEN on Tuesday.
Australia’s squad for the Pakistan tour still a top priority – Andrew McDonald
Although Maxwell will be considered, McDonald also asserted that the management will want to reward the squad that toured Pakistan recently for a historic 3-match Test series and bagged the trophy with a 1-0 scoreline.

“There was a small discussion about what it (including Maxwell) potentially looked like, but (we felt we needed to) reward the team that went to Pakistan and how that squad went about its work. It was always going to be very difficult to change,” he further mentioned.
Currently, Maxwell is playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL where they occupy the fifth position on the points table.
