Shubman Gill had a day to remember both on and off the field on Day 2 of the ongoing second Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test against England at Edgbaston. After smashing a sensational 269 in the second Test at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill had an emotional moment when he received a special voice note from his parents.

At just 25, the young Indian Test captain has now written his name into the history books. His powerful 269-run knock didn’t just help India take full control of the second Test but also helped him to break a plethora of records in the longest format of the game.

With this knock, Gill broke two massive records, overtaking Kohli’s 254* as the highest individual Test score by an India captain and Tendulkar’s 241* as the highest Test score by an Indian outside Asia.

After the end of Day 2’s play at Edgbaston, the BCCI shared a video showing Gill’s post-match celebrations. In the video, the Punjab lad was seen doing interviews, signing autographs, and then getting a grand welcome at the team hotel with dhol beats and loud cheers.

But the most touching moment came when Gill saw a voice message from his parents during the interview. He looked emotional and proud as his parents congratulated him for his marathon knock and shared how proud they felt watching him dominating in England.

Proud parents shower love as Shubman Gill dominates Edgbaston

Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Singh, was thrilled with his son’s stunning 269 and said it reminded him of how Shubman played during his age-group cricket days. His father also jokingly reminded him about missing the triple century.

He was heard saying in the video, “Shubman beta, well played. Aaj teri batting dekh ke bahoot mazza aaya aur dil ko bahoot sukoon mileya. Jaise tu chota U16 aur U19 khelta thaa, ussi tarah ki batting laggi, aur bahoot his proud feel hua. (Shubman, son, well played. Today, watching your batting brought a lot of joy and great peace to my heart. It felt just like when you used to play in U16 and U19. And I felt very proud.)”

On the other hand, his mother said, “Bahoot accha laga beta tera batting dekh kar, keep going, God bless you (Felt very good watching your batting, son. Keep going, God bless you.”

Shubman Gill gets emotional after heartfelt message from parents

Shubman became emotional after listening to a voice message from his father following his incredible 269-run knock. He revealed that his cricket journey began because of his father and that he has always played the game for him.

The Indian captain said in the video, “This means a lot to me. Growing up, I played all of my cricket for my dad, in the sense that it was because of him I started playing cricket. He and my best friend, whom I practiced with, are the only two people—when it comes to cricket, I care about and I listen to. Means a lot coming from him, but he also said I missed my triple century.”
