"How's Shreyas Iyer even playing for India?"- Twitter flabbergasted at Indian batsman's another flop outing

India’s middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer who has now become a regular feature for the Indian team in the Test side, has once again walked out of the crease with disappointment as he squandered yet another opportunity to score something big in the 2nd innings of the 1st Test against England in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International stadium.
Shreyas Iyer walked out to bat at number 5 following the dismissal of number 3 Shubman Gill who also had to walk out from the crease after scoring 23 off 66 and their performance is now raising questions on the quality of the middle-order, which is currently under major transition.
Although KL Rahul who came out to bat at number 4 to replace star batter Virat Kohli is currently on the crease and is inching closer towards yet another century in what will be his 2nd Test ton in last 3 matches. While Rahul is batting with sheer maturity and patience, there is something going wrong with Shreyas Iyer.
All the promise that he has shown in the white ball formats is somehow getting depleted in the longest format. Its almost as if he is looking like a shadow of himself and his current form and decision making is being criticized heavily. People are throwing jabs not just at Shreyas Iyer but also towards India captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid as to why is Iyer being backed again and again despite his no show.
During India’s previous Test series in South Africa, Iyer took the backseat and did not perform well when it mattered the most. Especially in the 1st Test at Centurion when the Indian batting order suffered a sudden collapse, Shreyas Iyer after showing initial sparks, walked out of the crease for 31 in the 1st innings and then scored 6 in the 2nd.
There was not much to play for in the 2nd Test but his performance in the on-going Hyderabad Test is just very disappointing given his numbers in the shorter formats. Maybe its time for the Indian management to get over the fact that they should not include batters into the Test side on the basis of their white ball performances.
Despite his departure, India are in a commanding position as they have taken the lead by 22 runs with Jadeja and Rahul standing firm on the crease.
Shreyas Iyer dismissed for 35 runs. How’s he playing Test cricket with just 1 hundred in 13 matches while players like Sarfaraz Khan are not getting a chance even with first-class average of 70? 🇮🇳👎🏼👎🏼 #INDvsENG pic.twitter.com/Va7uQXq6s0

Today’s score of 35 was Shreyas Iyer’s highest in last ten Test innings.

Sunil Gavaskar losing his rag over Shreyas Iyer’s wicket is very funny but also justified. Brainless batting really given the circumstances.
India should be boring England to death here and just wait for the inevitable bad balls.— James 💝🏏⚽️ (@jamesash89) January 26, 2024
Most inconsistent shreyas iyer. Doesn’t deserve to be in indian team#INDvsENG #INDvENG #shreyasiyer pic.twitter.com/L1nXdGRpfJ

Shreyas Iyer is getting out in a similar way too many times for my liking, he is getting caught on the leg side boundary against spinners.
He needs to take the field into consideration when going for aerial shots & stop throwing his wicket with such poor shots.#INDvsENG

Sunny is right when he says “ what a waste of a wicket” about the Shreyas Iyer dismissal. Iyer doesn’t seem to learn. Gill going down the same route. Soft dismissals when you are well set should hurt the most.

What a waste of opportunity. Shreyas Iyer will be dropped as soon as Virat kohli comes at the 3rd Test match.
