The India National Cricket Team has finally received the good news they were desperately waiting for. Captain Shubman Gill is almost fully fit and is all set to take charge in the second and final Test against South Africa, starting on November 22 in Guwahati.
After days of uncertainty following the neck spasm that he sustained during the first test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Shubman Gill’s strong recovery has brought a wave of relief inside the Indian camp. He has responded exceptionally well to treatment and is moving freely without discomfort.
Shubman Gill all but confirmed for the Guwahati Test
With the next Test carrying huge importance after India’s shocking defeat in Kolkata, Gill’s return could not have come at a better time. Not just for the Guwahati Test, the Indian captain is also 100% ready to lead the side in the upcoming three-match ODI against South Africa.

Shubman Gill told to avoid flights
Earlier, doctors from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) reportedly told Shubman Gill to rest for at least three days. They have also warned him not to take any flight for now because his neck pain is quite severe. This puts his travel to Guwahati in doubt, as the Indian team is scheduled to leave on Wednesday (November 19).
A source was quoted as saying by PTI, “He (Shubman Gill) has acute neck pain, and we’re not allowed to further go into details about the injury. He has to keep wearing the neck collar. He has been advised to rest for three or four days and not to take flight. In this situation, he is not advised to travel to Guwahati. But we are monitoring his progress on a daily basis, and the picture will be clearer by Tuesday.”
Another report has made the situation even more concerning. According to information shared with the Times of India, Gill’s injury may not be a quick spasm at all. People close to the team believe that the Indian captain might have been dealing with this problem for some time, and doctors are still trying to understand how serious it really is.

Nitish Kumar Reddy recalled for Guwahati Test
Earlier, it was said that it was a pillow-related discomfort, but the Eden Gardens tells a different story. Gill suddenly collapsed while playing a sweep shot and grabbed his neck in sharp pain. He had to be taken off the field, leaving everyone stunned.
On the other hand, the Indian team management has drafted Nitish Kumar Reddy back into the Test squad ahead of the second match against South Africa. The selectors wanted a strong lower-order batter who can also add balance to the side, and Reddy fits the plan perfectly.
Reddy’s presence could help India maintain a solid left-right combination in the middle and lower order, and his ability to handle pressure and play attacking shots down the order makes him a serious contender for a spot in the playing XI in the Guwahati Test.
