Overton and Rasheed come in for Ashwin and Conway - MS Dhoni

Speaking at the toss, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni confirmed that Ravichandran Ashwin and Devon Conway have been dropped from the playing XI with Shaik Rasheed and Jamie Overton replacing the veteran players.

MS Dhoni also thanked fans for supporting them wherever they go and spoke about the struggles of the franchise in the batting department. He elaborated:

"We are blessed, we get good support wherever we go. 'Thank you', to all the fans. We want to bowl first, there's chances of dew here. The wicket gets better in the second innings. It's important to set the right temperament. We haven't been consistent with our batting.

"With the ball, we have been strong. It's important to have a positive mindset, play those big shots. It's a matter of time. We have a couple of changes. Overton and Rasheed come in for Ashwin and Conway.

Ravichandran Ashwin failed miserably in IPL 2025

Ashwin was one of the marquee signings of the Chennai Super Kings at the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction. Ravichandran Ashwin entered the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore and several teams showed interest in him.

Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru went after Ashwin, but in the end, Chennai Super Kings managed to acquire his services for a whopping INR 9.75 crore.

Ravichandran Ashwin, however, failed to repay the faith shown by the franchise and failed miserably both with the ball and the bat in the competition.

He featured in the first six matches for the Chennai Super Kings against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.

In those matches, he only managed to take five wickets at a poor economy of 9.90. His best bowling figures came against the Punjab Kings as he registered 2/48. With the bat, Ashwin got the opportunity only in two matches and returned with scores of 1 and 11.

The back-to-back failures of the veteran all-rounder didn't sit well with the franchise and the decision was made to leave him out of the playing XI.

Here's how fans reacted to Ravichandran Ashwin's axing:
