Feeling a little hard to process the emotions - Riyan Parag
Being invited to bowl first in the match, the Rajasthan Royals stopped Lucknow Super Giants to 180/5 despite Sandeep Sharma leaking 27 runs in the last over.
Chasing the target, Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a sensational 74 runs, but the rest of the batters failed, and Rajasthan Royals couldn't score 9 runs in the last over and faced a shocking loss.
Speaking after the match, Riyan Parag said that he was unable to understand how they lost the match, which they should have finished in the 18th-19th over, and blamed himself for the defeat. He said:
"Feeling a little hard to process the emotions, not sure what we did wrong. We were in the game till the 18-19th over. I probably should have finished it in the 19th over, I blame myself."
Sandy (Sandeep Sharma) bhai is trusted - Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag said that his bowling unit did a great job, but Sandeep Sharma's last over of 27 runs cost them the game. He said:
"We just have to put one game together collectively for 40 overs, only then can we win. We did really well (with the ball), the last over was unfortunate, thought that we would stop them for 165-170."
Riyan Parag added that Sandeep Sharma is a trusted campaigner, and it was just one bad day at the office for him. He said:
"Sandy (Sandeep Sharma) bhai is trusted, he’s only had one bad game. Samad batted really well. We should’ve chased that down. Today was perfect, no complaints about the wicket. We were right in it, just a few balls can cost you an IPL game."
How did RR perform in the previous IPL match against LSG?
Rajasthan Royals clinched a brilliant seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants on April 27 at the Ekana Stadium in their previous IPL clash.
Opting to bowl first in the match, Rajasthan Royals bowlers did a good job and didn't allow the Lucknow Super Giants to breach the 200-run mark.
Trent Boult struck early, cleaning up Quinton de Kock in the first over while Sandeep Sharma sent back Marcus Stoinis as LSG slipped to 11/2.
Then, KL Rahul (76 off 48) and Deepak Hooda (50 off 31) staged a strong comeback with a 115-run partnership, but the Royals kept chipping in wickets at regular intervals and reduced LSG to 196/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Yashasvi Jaiswal (24 off 18) and Jos Buttler (34 off 18) built a 60-run opening stand before RR suffered a mini-collapse and slipped to 78/3 in 8.4 overs.
However, skipper Sanju Samson and young batter Dhruv Jurel turned the tide with a stunning 121-run unbeaten partnership. Jurel slammed a game-changing 52* off 34 balls, while Samson led from the front with a blistering 71* off 33 deliveries, sealing the win in the 19th over.
