Former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan hinted at the possibility of seeing only one change in the Indian playing XI for the final Test against England at Old Trafford. Although he didn’t take a particular name, it was quite obvious because all things at the moment point to Ajinkya Rahane.

The vice-captain of the team has been given plenty of chances to prove himself but he failed quite miserably. Even on the flattest of tracks at The Oval, Rahane had scores of 14 and 0 which are unacceptable considering his standards.

So far, India has been reluctant to tinker with the batting combination. It has provided rest to its bowlers and rotated them but they’ve continued to back the batsmen. However, it’s time to reign in the changes now that India finds itself in a good position to win the series, as per Zaheer Khan.

I can see only one change in batting. But in bowling, you also need to check the workload of the bowlers. You will also need to take form-based decisions and look at the conditions. Now you cannot lose the series so what is needed to win the series, accordingly you need to change. If bowlers can be changed, then why not batsmen?” he said.

“This Indian team has lots of potential” – Zaheer Khan

Ever since India defeated Australia at the Gabba this year, the team has made spectacular comebacks in the longest format of the game. They’ve been in precarious positions but have been constantly bailed out by different players. Zaheer Khan attributed much of it to the mindset imbibed in Virat Kohli’s squad and also the bench strength the team has.

This team has lots of potential and able players coz of which this team is able to flourish and achieve greater heights day by day. The bench strength is amazing. The parameters and goals set are very high,” Zaheer concluded.

India recorded its fourth overseas Test win in the last seven attempts and now leads by 2-1 in the 5-match Test series against England.
