While everyone is impressed with Shikhar Dhawan for his captaincy on the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka, veteran Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal seemed to have gone a bit too far with his praises on the Indian cricketer.

Kamran Akmal likened Dhawan’s leadership to that of former India captain MS Dhoni’s. He said that the southpaw’s calm and composed demeanour even in adversity reminded him of Dhoni. He observed Dhawan was not flustered when the Sri Lankan batsmen were briefly on top of the Indian bowlers, and smartly made the right bowling changes.

India won the ODI series 2-1 and then have taken a 1-0 lead in the T20I series. This is the first time Dhawan, who made his debut in 2010, is captaining the country’s cricket team.

“Shikhar Dhawan’s captaincy in the first T20I was really good. The bowling changes and field placings were impressive. Dhawan seems like a cool captain. In fact, I can seen shades of MS Dhoni in Dhawan’s calm and composed captaincy.

“He took excellent decisions under pressure and did not panic even after Sri Lanka got off to a quick start. To win by 38 runs after the Lankans were 20 for no loss after two overs was an excellent effort and Dhawan must get some credit for it. Of course, the bowlers were also brilliant,” Kamran Akmal said in his YouTube video.

Kamran Akmal then applauded pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling effort on Sunday night. Bhuvneshwar, who is the vice-captain on the trip, was rewarded with the Man of the Match award for his figures of 4/22. The seamer dismissed the set Avishka Fernando in the middle-overs; then he snapped three scalps in his final spell at the death to seal the game.

“Vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar brought all his experience into play. He is a class bowler. A target of 165 is very much attainable in today’s T20 cricket but India’s bowling was top-notch and Sri Lanka’s batting could not stand up to the challenge,” the wicketkeeper further complimented the Indian team.
