India Women’s National Cricket Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur backed the all-rounder Deepti Sharma after the debatable run-out incident involving her and England’s Charlie Dean. India skipper said that Deepti effecting a run-out at the non-striker’s end was not a crime.

During the 3rd ODI of the three-match ODI series between India and England at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London on September 24, Deepti Sharma ran Dean out at the non-striker’s end. On the 3rd ball of the 44th over of the innings, Deepti noticed Dean backing up too far at the non-striker’s end and before completing her delivery stride, she turned back and simply knocked the bails off to dismiss the English batter and bundle out England.

Charlie Dean, who scored good 47 runs off 80 balls in the match, was in tears after getting run-out.

Speaking at a press conference after the match, Harmanpreet Kaur said:

“Today whatever we have done I don’t think it was any crime. It is part of the game and it is an ICC rule and I think we just need to back our player. I’m actually very happy she was aware of that, and the batter she is taking too long a stride I think. I don’t think she has done something wrong and we just need to back her.”

Meanwhile, India Women’s National Cricket Team won the third and final ODI of the three-match series against England Women’s National Cricket Team by 16 runs at Lord’s, London on September 24 to complete the 3-0 clean sweep over the hosts.

India Women’s National Cricket Team captain Harmanpreet said that the run-out at the non-striker’s end, which was the last wicket of the match, should not become the point of discussion because the Indian bowlers also worked very hard to pick the first nine wickets in the match.

“I don’t think so, because, like I said, I don’t think we have done any crime. I don’t think we need to talk about that because the first nine wickets were also very important and everybody was working so hard.

“It was a chaseable total but the way our bowlers bowled and the whole team putting in the effort, there were a lot of things to celebrate other than just talking about the last wicket,” she said.

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet was annoyed when the presenter kept harping on the run-out involving Deepti Sharma and Charlie Dean.

“Well, to be honest I thought you will ask about the nine wickets which was not easy to take as well. It’s part of the game. I don’t think we have done something new. It shows your awareness, what batters are doing,” Harmanpreet said.

“I will back my players, she hasn’t done something outside the rules. After the first game we discussed, we wanted to do really well, we have that much potential. We want to continue this kind of cricket.”
