Former North Zone selector and cricketer Sarandeep Singh has backed India men’s head coach Rahul Dravid’s comments on Wriddhiman Saha. Saha, 37, recently revealed that Rahul Dravid, the Indian head coach, had told him during the South Africa tour that he will not be considered for the Test team going forward and hinted that he can think of retirement as well.
This came after Wriddhiman Saha was left out of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka along with other veterans like Ishan Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane.

“The team management had told me that I would not be considered henceforth. I could not tell this so long as I was part of the India team setup. Even coach Rahul Dravid suggested that I think about taking retirement,” Saha had told reporters.
In response, Rahul Dravid being the total gentleman that he is, said that he was not hurt at all at Saha’s comments and said that like every cricketer, the Bengal keeper has the right to know about having a clear picture of where his position stands.

“I’m actually not hurt at all. I have deep respect for Wriddhi and his achievements and his contribution to Indian cricket. My conversation came from that place. I think he deserved honesty and clarity,” Dravid said after India’s 3-0 T20I series win against the West Indies.
Wriddhiman Saha Should Think About Himself He Is 37 Years Old, Rahul Dravid Didn’t Say Anything Wrong: Sarandeep Singh
Sarandeep Singh, the former India cricketer, and selector echoed the words of Rahul Dravid and said that there was nothing wrong with what the head coach told Saha and that the keeper should also understand that he is 37 years old now and is no longer the first-choice keeper in the team.

“I don’t think Dravid said anything wrong, this is the time when Saha should think about himself he is 37 years old. He will not get selected for the last eleven so why does he wants to be selected in the team to just sit on the bench when we have a young wicketkeeper. Pant is first priority of the team and he will play for a long time,” Sarandeep told ANI.
Saha had also lashed out at BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, saying that the former India captain had assured him not to bother over losing his place in the Test camp after his half-century against New Zealand last year.
