"I Haven't Played In Wankhede.."- Alyssa Healy Throws Massive Warning To Harmanpreet Kaur And Co
Australian women’s team’s newly appointed captain Alyssa Healy has challenged India to prepare a spinning track for their one-off Test in Mumbai later this month. Healy was officially announced as the skipper on Saturday after Meg Lanning announced her retirement from international cricket. She acted as the stand-in captain for the past year and under her leadership Australia retained the Women’s Ashes and won a T20I series against India 4-1. Alyssa Healy reckons Australian spinners will pose a big threat to India.
Australian men’s team lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy by 2-1 in India earlier this year after being exposed to excessively turning tracks. They resorted to playing just one fast bowler during the last three Tests and Healy’s husband Mitchell Starc played the last two test matches, where Australia secured a win and then drew the last test in Ahmedabad.
Alyssa Healy Warns Team India
“I’m actually really intrigued to see as to what sort of wickets they prepare,” Alyssa Healy said. “I think we’ve got a really, really good spin attack. So do that at your own peril. Don’t get me wrong, the Indians have got a strong spin attack as well.”
“But I mean, we’ve got some of the best leg-spinners in the world. We’ve got Ash Gardener, who took nine wickets on English soil with the ball in hand. So yeah, prepare spinning wickets at your own demise. It will be interesting to see if they make it nice and flat. But I haven’t played at Wankhede [Stadium] since the IPL exhibition game a couple of years ago, so I’m excited for that experience,” Alyssa Healy added.
Australia Have Included Four Spinners In The Squad Against India
Australia have announced a 16-member squad for the India tour which includes four spinners- Ashley Gardner, veteran left-armer Jess Jonassen, and the two leg-spinners Alan King and Georgia Wareham. They will be a part of a strong and varied attack for the multi-format series which starts later this month and ends on January 10. Currently, Ashley Gardner is Australia’s leading wicket-taker in tests with 16 wickets in four matches and she would get a lot of help in getting more wickets in India given the spin-friendly tracks.
The tour will start on December 21 with a one-off test match followed by three ODIs and three T20Is. Australia defeated the Women In Blue the last time they toured India in December 2022. This time Alyssa Healy is back as Australia’s full-time captain and she is returning to the game after an injury that forced her to miss an entire season of the Women’s Big Bash League.
