Veteran Pakistan keeper-batsman Kamran Akmal has opened up positively on India-Pakistan cricketing ties resuming soon. The ever-spewing political tensions between India and Pakistan has restricted the bilateral series between them, with the nations only engaging in the ICC tournaments. While Kamran Akmal wills to see the bilateral ties resuming soon, he also suggested that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly wants the same.

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since the latter visited the Indian shores in late 2012. The men in green had a successful tour as they beat their arch-rivals in the three-match ODI series and drew the T20I leg. But since then, the constant tensions in the political environment have meant both cricketing boards have not reached an agreement to resume the ties.

Kamran Akmal stated that the most significant factor is that Sourav Ganguly is the BCCI President and he understands the pressure of the India-Pakistan matches apart from being aware that it can bring the two nations closer. Thus, the 39-year old thinks Ganguly wishes to see India and Pakistan during his tenure as the President. Akmal feels that the Prince Of Kolkata cannot openly say it since he reckons it would create controversy.

The biggest factor is that Sourav Ganguly is the BCCI President. He has played so many games against Pakistan and he understands the importance of these games and how the games can bring the two nations closer. I think he would like to see India play Pakistan during his tenure. I know he wants it, I have played with him and I am sure he thinks about this. The players of that era, they surely want India vs Pakistan games to resume. They can’t say that openly because it may be created into an issue. They aren’t like us who are always ready to take the first step,” Akmal told Sawera Pasha in her Youtube channel.

Kamran Akmal further stated he believes that ICC could play a significant role in resuming the India-Pakistan ties by putting them against each other in the World Test Championship. The keeper-batsman also highlighted that relations can improve only by playing one another in India or Pakistan and not in neutral venues.

“The ICC can play a major role in ensuring India vs Pakistan games resume. But the ICC should look into this that India vs Pakistan games resume. Especially for the World Test Championship, where we go and play in India and they come and play in Pakistan. No neutral venues. Only then will the relations get better,” he added.
