Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has finally addressed recent rumors about a potential marriage to former Indian tennis player Sania Mirza. Mohammed Shami criticized those spreading these baseless rumors about his marriage on social media and urged for more responsible use of the platform.

Sania Mirza recently divorced former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shoaib Malik, who married actress Sana Javed in January 2024. Mirza and Malik had been estranged for nearly a year before their divorce. After remaining single, rumors surfaced about the former Indian tennis star marrying Mohammed Shami.

Urge Everyone To Be Responsible - Mohammed Shami

Rumors and viral images on social media suggested that Mohammed Shami and Sania Mirza were set to marry. However, speaking on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast, Shami called the rumors "weird" and urged people to avoid spreading false information.

"I urge everyone to be responsible with social media and refrain from spreading such unfounded news," Shami told Shubhankar Mishra.

Rumors about a marriage between Mohammed Shami and Sania Mirza gained traction online after a doctored image spread like wildfire on the internet. The image purportedly showed Shami and Mirza in wedding attire on social media. The Indian fast bowler was replaced with Malik from Mirza's 2010 wedding photo.

Must Think About It And Then Share Such Things - Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami described the rumors and memes about him and Sania Mirza as "weird." The 33-year-old cricketer noted that such memes can impact people's lives. He criticized the use of unverified sources for spreading such content.

"It is weird and done purposely for some lame fun. But what can be done? If I open my phone then I could see those memes. But I would only like to say I think that memes are made for fun, but if they are related to someone's life, then you must think about it and then share such things. These people share from unverified pages and get away by saying anything and everything," Shami said.

"But I would like to say one thing - if you have the guts to say all these things from a verified page, then I will reply. Try achieving success, help people and upgrade yourself then I will believe that you are a good person," Shami further stated.

Mohammed Shami’s marriage with Hasin Jahan has faced issues, including her allegations of domestic violence and extramarital affairs. She also accused him of match-fixing, which led the BCCI to suspend his national contract. The BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit later cleared Shami of these charges and reinstated him.

Shami has not played for India since the ODI World Cup 2023, where the Men in Blue lost to Australia in the final. The right arm pacer underwent surgery earlier this year and missed the IPL 2024. The BCCI is closely monitoring his recovery, and he is anticipated to return for the Test series against Bangladesh in September.
