Indian Test No.3 and Chennai Super Kings latest recruit Cheteshwar Pujara has revealed that was left disappointed after the now-defunct IPL franchise Gujarat Lions ignored him during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Gujarat Lions and Rising Pune Supergiants made their debut in 2016 following the two-year suspension of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

The Lions had their base in Rajkot and Cheteshwar Pujara admitted that he would have loved to don the Gujarat-based franchise jersey.

“Well, I was disappointed that I was not picked. But that was not in my control. It would have been nice if I was part of that side. That is in the past and I have moved on,” Cheteshwar Pujara said.

Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara is all set to make his return to the IPL after a gap of seven years.

Pujara, who last featured in the cash-rich league in the 2014 season, was picked by the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in the 2021 auction.

The 33-year-old donned the yellow jersey for the first time on Monday after having completed the one-week quarantine, as mandated by the BCCI.

Following the completion of quarantine, the Saurashtra batsman also hit the nets for his first-ever session for the three-time IPL champions.
