Former England Captain Michael Vaughan makes a big statement on Twitter stating that he would kept Ajinkya Rahane as the Indian test captain for the England Series. Though Rahane has kept his unbeaten record intact, it is still too early to assess him for the future and it is also important not to forget that Virat Kohli had a major part in building up the Indian test team.

Ajinkya Rahane had a tough responsibility of leading the Indian team against Australia with most of the match winners and experienced players ruled out due to injury concerns but Rahane led the side beautifully and he instilled his courage and grit into the team where the youngsters in the team contributed to their full potential. The series win against all odds under the leadership of Rahane will go down as one of the memorable comebacks after getting all out for 36 in the first test at Adelaide.

Ajinkya Rahane Rose To The Occasion At Melbourne

After the havoc at Adelaide test, Virat Kohli handed over the captaincy to Ajinkya Rahane for the remainder of the series as he was returning to India on paternity leave. Most of the cricket legends and experts have been harsh on the stand-in captain and they did not believe that India would make a turnaround without the likes of Virat Kohli. But Ajinkya Rahane played a gem of an innings at Melbourne scoring his second century at the MCG with the first coming five years ago. It was his spirited effort which lifted up the team and his captaincy tactics on the field staged one of the greatest comebacks.

It did not stop there, and India managed to beat Australia in the fourth test again after a draw at the third test thereby Rahane became the second Asian captain to win a series on Australian soil.

Michael Vaughan’s Opinion On Ajinkya Rahane’s Captaincy

Michael Vaughan on Twitter opined that allowing Rahane to take over the captaincy would make Virat Kohli more dangerous as a batsman. “I think I would have really considered keeping @ajinkyarahane88 as Captain for @BCCI !!! Allowing @imVkohli to be the Batsman only would make India even more dangerous & Rahane has an incredible presence & tactical nous about him … #INDvsAUS,” Vaughan tweeted.

Ajinkya Rahane congratulated his teammates and also thanked them for the contributions that helped him look like a good captain.“It’s an honour to lead the country. It was not about me but about the team. I looked good because everyone contributed. For us it was about having that character on the field, having the fighting spirit, the attitude,” said Rahane during the post-match presser.

Ajinkya Rahane was really happy with the way all the youngsters in the team contributed and he mentioned that winning the series was 2-1 was emotional and unexplainable.
