Heaping praise on Sherfane Rutherford, former cricketer Ian Bishop has said that West Indies will be a problem for other teams in this year’s T20 World Cup 2024. The highly-anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to be played in June this year and will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States of America.

The Caribbean will be hosting the tournament for the second time and the first time since 2010. West Indies will be aiming to become the first team to win the T20 World Cup thrice.

In 2016, they became the first team to win the tournament twice before England joined them in 2022. In the last edition of the T20 World Cup, West Indies had endured a terrible campaign. After a Super 12 exit in the 2021 World Cup, they bowed out of the 2022 edition in the very first round.

They finished bottom of their group after suffering losses against Scotland and Ireland. The Caribbean outfit has lost six of the eight matches it has played in T20 World Cups since winning the 2016 edition.

Ian Bishop praises Sherfane Rutherford:

While West Indies failed to do well in the last two editions of the T20 World Cup, Ian Bishop is confident they will cause a lot of problems to other teams in the upcoming edition. The former cricketer-turned-commentator made the comments while praising Sherfane Rutherford after his match-winning knock for Quetta Gladiators in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 2024).

The left-handed batsman smashed an unbeaten 58 off 31 balls with the help of four and six sixes as the Gladiators chased down 166 runs on the final ball of the game. Rutherford hit a last-ball four to take his team home. Soon after the game ended, Ian Bishop took to X (formerly Twitter) to say that Rutherford has taken his game to another level in the last few months before backing West Indies to do well in the T20 World Cup.

“Shurfane Rutherford’s game has gone to another level in the last 12 to 16 months. His ability to hit sixes on both sides of the wicket is priceless. He loves the PSL and they love him here. West Indies should be a problem for other teams in the upcoming ICCT20CWC 2024,” wrote Ian Bishop.
