England Women penalised for slow over rate against India Women in 1st ODI

Meanwhile, England Women were also penalized by the ICC. The hosts were found one over short of the required rate, and they have been fined 5% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the first ODI that was won by the Indian team by four wickets earlier this week.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the given time limit.

The ICC said in the official release, “Pratika Rawal and England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt accepted their respective sanctions imposed by match referee Sarah Bartlett, so there was no need for a formal hearing.”

Deepti Sharma and Jemimah Rodrigues deliver under pressure as India stun England in the 1st ODI

Speaking about the first IND-W vs ENG-W ODI clash, Deepti Sharma stayed calm under pressure and guided India to the thrilling win over England. She scored an unbeaten 62 runs off just 64 balls, helping her team chase down the 259-run target with 10 balls left and four wickets in hand.

Deepti built a crucial 90-run partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues, who also played a solid knock of 48 runs from 54 deliveries. They rescued India after a shaky start, with the team at 124 for 4 following skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s early dismissal for 17.

Amanjot Kaur’s quickfire cameo of 20 runs off 14 balls sealed the victory smoothly for India against England in Southampton. Earlier in the match, India’s young pacer Kranti Goud made an impact with two early wickets. However, England recovered from the early blows, thanks to Sophia Dunkley’s stunning knock of an unbeaten 83 off 92 balls and Alice Davidson-Richards’ brilliant 53-run knock.

Their 106-run stand helped England reach a competitive total of 258 for 6. Indian off-spinner Sneh Rana scalped 2 wickets for just 31 runs in her 10 overs. With this win, India Women made a strong start to their preparations for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.
