ICC calls for emergence meeting amid India vs Pakistan tensions

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is all set to conduct an Annual General Meeting from July 17 to 20. The meeting will focus on the backdrop of hostilities between India and Pakistan.

Currently, a rumour is spreading that India will not participate in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. This report came after the Pahalgam attack in May.

BCCI take on Asia Cup participation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) haven’t announced any decision to withdraw from the Asia Cup 2025. But there are rising speculations that India might pull out from the tournament.

Some reports are also suggesting that the India-Pakistan issue might change the World Cricket perspective as if both team will not clash in any of the tournament, then it will be a big loss for ICC and world cricket.

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that India shouldn’t play any type of cricket with Pakistan.

“There should be absolutely no cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. Speaking in his personal capacity, Till all this [terrorism] doesn't stop, there should not be anything between India and Pakistan,” Gambhir said.

According to the reports, the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup has also been postponed for this reason as well, but there is no official confirmation yet.

ICC meeting on India vs Pakistan rising tensions

ICC President Jay Shah will be present at the meeting and will be solving the issue between India vs Pakistan.

Both teams only play against each other at the ICC events or in the Asia Cup. That's why the meeting will become more important for cricket fans all over the globe.

Jay Shah will have to address the issue by keeping aside his nationality to take a neutral decision.

The tensions were raised sky-high as a result of both nations' T20 tournament having been suspended for a week. Some overseas players in both leagues didn't re-join their franchise because of the war between India and Pakistan.

Three-day ICC annual general meeting

The ICC annual general meeting will be held from June 17 to 20. Shah has to make a dedicated task force for supporting Afghanistan’s women's cricket.

Jay will also address some issues, like erasing the two-ball rule in the ODI format. The formation of the working group will also be a key issue that has to be addressed by the Shah. The working group have to submit its recommendations to the board during the annual general meetingThe .

Chief Executives Committee (CEC) election will also be held during the annual general meeting. Three representatives, Rashpal Bajwa from Cricket Canada, Umair Butt from Danish Cricket Association and Sumod Damodar from Botswana Cricket Association will be present in the meeting. The associate members to be elected by an electoral college of 45 associate members.
