Jay Shah is set to become the new ICC Chairman after Greg Barclay withdraws from the race
Although the ICC has invited nominations for the candidates, the focus will be on Jay Shah, who is currently the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shah is expected to be a strong contender for the role after Barclay decided not to extend his current term.
A source in the ICC even confirmed that the election depends on what Jay Shah decides. The source confirmed that if Jay Shah decides to file the nomination, there will be no election as he will be elected without any hindrance.
"For the election to proceed, at least one additional candidate must enter the race and it's not clear whether there will be a contest at all. It will depend on what Mr Jay Shah decides. If he files a nomination, there will be no election. He will be elected unopposed," the source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
