India National Cricket Team are mulling over the fitness of Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to give him every chance to recover ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and wait for him even if there's a 1% chance.
As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that Jasprit Bumrah will be starting his rehabilitation at the NCA. The fast bowler recently underwent scans in Bengaluru and the BCCI will decide on his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on how quickly he recovers.
BCCI won't be ruling Jasprit Bumrah out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The reports claimed that BCCI won't be ruling him out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With the deadline to submit the final squad being on 12th February, the India team are in a race against time to finalize their plans. But they are ready to go the extra mile to have him ready for the tournament, even if it means seeing him miss the first few matches.
A source close to BCCI said that they will be following the same plan as they did with Hardik Pandya, who got injured during the ICC World Cup 2023.
Even if there is a 1% chance, the BCCI is likely to wait - Source close to BCCI
He mentioned that BCCI could later approach the Event Technical Committee to seek a replacement. He said:
"Even if there is a 1% chance, the BCCI is likely to wait. They did the same with Hardik Pandya as they waited for close to two weeks before getting Prasidh Krishna as a replacement. Even when Shubman Gill was down with dengue, they didn't have any thoughts of looking for a replacement.
"Yes, those two incidents happened during the campaign, but the approach with Bumrah could well be no different. This is just the deadline to submit the squad and they could approach the Event Technical Committee at a later stage to seek a replacement if he fails to regain fitness,"
Jasprit Bumrah got injured during the last game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Jasprit Bumrah got injured during the last game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, which took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. The fast bowler was captaining the team in that match and felt discomfort in his back during the first innings and could manage just 10 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah didn't bowl in second innings, which proved out to be costly for the team as they face the defeat. Following that he has been out of action and also missed the three-match ODI series against England National Cricket Team, which is underway.
Jasprit Bumrah initially was ruled out of the first two games of the series and there were chances that he might be playing the last game. However, he was ruled out of the match as well, and so far, there seems to be no clarity if he will be fit for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 or not.
