Jasprit Bumrah's future in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to come on Tuesday (11th February). As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be taking the final call on the pacer before the deadline for the squad changes ends.
Jasprit Bumrah is currently at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He recently underwent scans on his back and the medical staff will now be coordinating with the selectors and the Indian team management before making the decision related to his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Jasprit Bumrah reportedly has experienced a stress reaction in his back
Jasprit Bumrah reportedly has experienced a stress reaction in his back, which requires five weeks of rest. It is learned that if there is even a slight chance that the pacer will be available for the latter stages, then BCCI will keep him in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and replace him later, subject to ICC approvals.
The reports added that if Jasprit Bumrah misses out, then the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will add Harshit Rana to the team. The fast bowler is part of the squad for the ongoing series against England and also played the first two games of the series.
Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury during the last game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Bumrah suffered a back injury during the last game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The premier fast bowler experienced pain in his back while bowling in his first innings, and after 10 overs, he was back in the dressing room. He then didn't come out to bowl in the second innings as well, which raised a lot of eyebrows.
Since then, he has been out of action, and there isn't any clear picture of him. It was expected that he would get fit for the last game of the ongoing England series, which will be played in Ahmedabad, but that wasn't the case either as he was ruled out of the entire three-match series.
Bumrah, if ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, will be a massive blow for the India National Cricket Team. This is because of the quality that he brings with him and also the fact that India has just named two pacers in the team with Hardik Pandya being the fast-bowling all-rounder.
India has Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh as fast bowlers in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
India has Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 currently. Shami, in the ongoing England series, has looked far away from his best while Arshdeep Singh is yet to play a game in the series.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will get underway from 19th February. India will open their campaign on 20th February against Bangladesh before playing Pakistan on February 23 and New Zealand on March 2.
