India Concerned About Jasprit Bumrah's Availability for Champions Trophy
India is concerned about Jasprit Bumrah's availability for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan and Dubai. Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, raising doubts about his participation in the prestigious tournament.
Bumrah was forced to leave the field after bowling just one over post-lunch in the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to back issues. He quickly changed into his training gear and went to the hospital with some support staff for scans. Bumrah returned to the dressing room before the close of play.
Fellow fast bowler Prasidh Krishna confirmed the issue during a press conference, describing it as a "back spasm." Bumrah didn’t bowl a single over in the second innings. India's head coach Gautam Gambhir did not provide an update on the severity of the injury. Bumrah had bowled over 150 overs in the five Tests.
Jasprit Bumrah Likely to Miss the Upcoming ODI Series Against England
According to a report by RevSportz, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. The severity of his back injury is still unclear and will be further assessed when Bumrah returns to India.
"RevSportz has learned that he is likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, starting from February 9. It is also understood that the exact grade of Bumrah’s back injury has yet to be determined and will be assessed when the ace pacer returns to India," the report stated.
Bumrah is still in Australia after the fifth and final Test in Sydney, where India lost by six wickets. Many players and support staff have faced difficulties in securing last-minute business class tickets for their travel plans, whether heading home or for vacations. Rohit Sharma, however, has already returned to India.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Expected to Be Backup Opener for Champions Trophy
Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to be included as a backup opener, with skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at the top of the order. Jaiswal is yet to make his debut in the 50-over format. Yashasvi Jaiswal has proven his abilities in the other two formats of the game and will presence will put pressure on Gill.
Mohammed Siraj is expected to be rested for the T20I series but will return for the ODIs and the Champions Trophy. The selection committee is closely monitoring Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action since the 2023 ODI World Cup.
