Ireland National Cricket Team batter Harry Tector has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the code of conduct during the recently concluded Test against the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team. The match between the teams concluded on Sunday (28th July).
Harry Tector was fined 15% of his match fees for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This relates to showing dissent at a Umpire’s decision during an International match. The batter also was handed one demerit point for his antics.
Harry Tector came under the radar during the sixth over of Ireland's second innings. After the batter was given out caught behind he wasn't convinced by it as he raised objections and also delayed leaving the field. Apart from this, he also gestured something at the umpire, which didn't go well with the match official.
Harry Tector admitted the offense, and hence, there was no need for an official hearing. The sanction was proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. As per ICC rules, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
Harry Tector didn't have a great outing with the bat for Ireland in the Test match against Zimbabwe. The batter managed 4 runs in the first innings, and after that, he bagged a six-ball duck in the second innings, finishing with a tally of just 4 runs in the game.
Overall, it was a great outing for the Ireland National Cricket Team in the game against Zimbabwe. Opting to bowl first, they bundled out the opposition for just 210 runs and took a 40-run lead in the first innings. In the second innings, they bowled well as they bundled out Zimbabwe for 197 runs.
With the bat, too, Ireland was top-notch as they crunched the important moments and won the game by the margin of 4 wickets. It was a nail-biter that went down the wire, but they held their nerves and won the game.
Was just an enjoyable Test - Ireland skipper Andrew Balbarine
Ireland National Cricket Team skipper Andrew Balbarine talked about the win saying that the win means a lot to them. He said that they enjoyed playing the game and also lauded Andy McBrine for his performance. He explained:
"We had our two best batters out there in the morning. The morning was good to bat. Heavy roller helped. They nullified any kind of threat. Then the homeboy - Andy - got us over the line. It means a lot to us.
"The ebbs and flows are unique to this sport. Last night, was tough to watch. Was just an enjoyable Test. We enjoy playing here. We didn't have enough people celebrating us in Abu Dhabi. McBrine is such a likeable guy. His skill level is high. Well deserved Man of the Match for him."
