Pakistan’s senior batter Fakhar Zaman has been fined and handed one demerit point following his behavior towards the umpires in the T20I Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has found Fakhar Zaman breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The incident unfolded in the 19th over of Pakistan’s innings, when Zaman got into a long argument with the on-field umpires after a decision that led to his dismissal during the T20I Tri-Series final against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The ICC said in an official statement, “Zaman was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” One demerit point has been added to Zaman’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offense in a 24-month period.”
Pakistan sign off 2025 in style with dominant T20I Tri-Series triumph
Last week, Pakistan had wrapped up the T20I Tri-Series with a stunning six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. With this victory, Pakistan finished the year 2025 with 21 wins in 34 matches, making it their most successful calendar year in T20I cricket.
At one stage, the Sri Lankans were cruising at 84 for 1, but one moment of pressure opened the floodgates. They could manage only 110 runs, thanks to Kamil Mishara’s fighting fifty, while the rest of the batters failed to cross even the 15-run mark against Pakistan in the final.

Mohammad Nawaz and Shaheen Afridi shone with the ball, each taking three wickets, while Abrar Ahmed got two wickets. Chasing 115 was never going to trouble Pakistan. The openers Sahibzada Farhan (23) and Saim Ayub (36) gave Pakistan a steady start, and Babar Azam batted calmly and remained unbeaten at 37 as they chased down the target in the 19th over.
Sri Lanka’s spinners looked flat against Pakistani batters. Pavan Rathnayake was the standout bowler for the Sri Lankan side with the two wickets.
Unbeatable Pakistan in T20I Tri-Series finals
This victory added to Pakistan’s remarkable record in T20I Tri-Series finals, which continued. It was their fourth T20I Tri-Series victory since 2018.
This win was followed by Pakistan beating Australia in Harare in 2018, New Zealand in Christchurch in 2022, and Afghanistan in Sharjah in 2025. The Men in Green will be next seen in action against the Islanders in a three-match T20I series.
