ICC T20 World Cup 2024: 'You Can't Drop...' - Kris Srikkanth On Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli's WC Participation

As Indian captain Rohit Sharma became the skipper of India after replacing Virat Kohli, it looked like there was a rift between the two Indian players. However, as time has passed one thing has become clear there are no boundaries between the two players. In the current era, Virat and Rohit have kept themselves away from the T20 format and are focusing on ODIs and Tests.
There are also speculations that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will miss the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, former Indian cricketer and chief selector Kris Srikkanth believes he would have the two modern greats in his plans for the T20 World Cup.
Kris Srikkanth stated that the Indian selectors will not say no to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma if they are available to play in the major T20 event in June this year. Srikkanth further added that Virat was the leading run scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup whereas Rohit will want to leave another impact on the world stage after the heartbreak in the ODI World Cup.
Kris Srikkanth backs Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the T20 World Cup 2024
Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, “Virat Kohli is a certainty. He is in great form. Rohit Sharma, maybe, is confident because of how he scored in the World Cup. He will regroup and try and do well in the IPL. If Rohit Sharma says I am available, you can’t say you will drop him.”
“At the end of the day, Rohit Sharma is also hurt that he has lost a World Cup. He would like to go out with a World Cup in his hand at least. He was there in the 2007 World Cup. He would want to do something similar, win a World Cup, and go out.”
“Virat Kohli would definitely want to win a T20 World Cup. Moreover, last year only the T20 World Cup took place, 13 months back. Virat Kohli was in extraordinary form.”
“If they say they are available, I don’t think you can drop them. If you want to give captaincy to Hardik, you can. But you have to also look at his (Hardik’s) fitness.”
The Indian cricket team are all set to play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan from January 11. BCCI is yet to announce the Indian squad for the series and will sit to discuss the team on January 7, 2024.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not played the shortest international format after their debacle to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final by ten wickets. Since then Hardik Pandya has been leading the Indian team in T20Is and has given positive results.
However, Hardik Pandya faced an injury during the 2023 ODI World Cup due to which he was ruled out of the whole tournament and the T20I series against Australia and South Africa. Suryakumar Yadav led India in both series and is also another possible captaincy option for the team if Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya are not available to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
However, Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will also be in a bit of trouble if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli make themselves available for the T20I format. The selectors have been giving chances to the young Indian brigade after both the players took a break from the shorter format.
