The semi-finalists for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 are decided after Afghanistan's win over Bangladesh on Tuesday at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent.

Afghanistan defended their target of 115 as they won by 8 runs on the DLS method after Bangladesh's target was revised to 114 in 19 overs due to multiple rain breaks.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 43 off 55 balls as he anchored the innings for Afghanistan. A few contributions from the lower order took them to 115/5 after 20 overs. Rishad Hossain the Bangladesh leggie took 3/26.

Afghanistan were up against it as they had to defend the low total to qualify for the semi-final. This was a must-win game for them and they addressed it in the same manner.

Skipper Rashid Khan and pacer Naveen-Ul-Haq took four wickets each to bowl out Bangladesh for 105 as Afghanistan qualified for the semi-finals for the very first time in any ICC event.

They have been the giant killers in this tournament so far. They first knocked out New Zealand in the group stage.

This Afghanistan win has now knocked out Australia from the tournament. Losses to Afghanistan and India in back-to-back Super 8 games did not help the Australians either.

ICC T20 World Cup Semi-Final Schedule 2024

South Africa vs Afghanistan - Semi-Final 1- Trinidad, June 26

South Africa and England qualified for the semi-finals from Group 2. The Proteas defeated West Indies and England defeated the USA to book a berth in the semi-final.

Interestingly, despite two losses, England were the first to make it to the semi-final. The Proteas, who have won a few close matches themselves will now face the mighty Afghanistan in the first semi-final on June 26.

Afghanistan have played with all their might and their wins against New Zealand, Australia, and Bangladesh will go down into their cricketing history. They now will aim to make it to the T20 World Cup final by beating the Proteas.

The Afghan boys are confident and will certainly not make things easy for South Africa in the knockout clash. So far South Africa have won both their T20I matches against South Africa but this is a different game altogether.

India vs England- Semi-Final 2- Guyana, June 27

India will face a much more familiar opponent in England in the second semi-final in Guyana on June 27, Thursday. India have maintained an unbeaten run in the tournament so far.

They won against Australia by 24 runs and their bowlers did a good job by defending 205. The match was set up for India by Rohit Sharma's 92 off 41 deliveries. He scored 76 of those runs in boundaries.

England, on the other hand, have had an indifferent campaign so far. They lost to Australia in the Group stage and then lost to South Africa in the Super 8 stage.

Despite these two losses, they became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals. South Africa with seven wins so far became the second team to qualify for the semi-finals.

India will know the threat that England brings in knockout games. Rohit Sharma's men lost to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final. This time around, they should be better prepared for the game in Guyana. A win for India will give the Men in Blue a shot at their second T20 World Cup title. England also won the title twice in 2010 and 2022.
