India Women eye maiden trophy after two heartbreaking final losses

Notably, Australia is the most successful team in the ICC Women’s World Cup history with seven titles, followed by England with four trophies.

New Zealand managed to lift the trophy only once in 2000 when they crushed Australia by four runs to win their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln. Speaking about India Women, they managed to reach the finals twice but could not lift the coveted trophy.

The Indian girls were thrashed by Australia by 98 runs in the 2005 Women’s ODI World Cup, and then they suffered another heartbreak in 2017 when England crushed them by nine runs in the final. Now, they will have the great opportunity to end their ICC trophy drought at home this year.

They made a total of 10 appearances in the Women’s ODI World Cup. Indian legend Jhulan Goswami is still the leading wicket-taker in the tournament’s history with 43 scalps. Unfortunately, India Women have the record for most losses (31) in the Women’s ODI World Cup ever since their debut.
