ICC World Cup 2023: 'Ben Stokes Coming Back Changes The Dynamic A Little'- Jos Buttler

England ODI skipper, Jos Buttler opened up on Ben Stokes’ inclusion in the ODI squad ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India and said that the 32-year-old’s inclusion in the squad will change the dynamic of the squad.

Ben Stokes retired from the 50-over format in 2022 due to the schedule of the matches. However, just a few days before the England team management announced the Three Lions’ provisional squad, Ben Stokes overturned his retirement decision. Following this, England selectors left no time to include the 32-year-old in the squad.

Harry Brook, the 24-year-old youngster who is currently in his top form had to leave his spot just to make space for an experienced player like Stokes.

Harry Brook accepted that it is disappointing not to get a chance to play in the ODI World Cup 2023but he can’t do anything about it now since the decision has already been made.

“Obviously it’s disappointing but I can’t do anything about it now. You’ve just gotta move on. I’m trying not to think about it anymore,” Harry Brook said.

As quoted by Cricbuzz, Jos Buttler praised Ben Stokes and said that he is a fantastic player but he also accepted that his inclusion in the squad will bring a dynamic change.

“Of course, Ben Stokes coming back and being available just as a batter sort of changes the dynamic a little bit. Ben’s a fantastic player to be able to welcome back, so it’s a really tough selection,” Jos Buttler said.

The England ODI skipper added there is a long time before the ODI World Cup 2023 starts and that they will wait to see what happens.

Buttler praised Harry Brook and said that he is a stupendous player who can bring a change at any moment in a game.

“There’s still a long time before everyone is meant to get on the plane, so we’ll wait and see what happens. We all know Harry’s a fantastic player and we saw what he can do the other night. It’s not like it’s a surprise: we know what a brilliant player he is, he’s just the unfortunate one to not be in that squad at the moment,” Jos Buttler added.

England will lock horns against New Zealand in the inaugural match of the prestigious tournament on 5th October at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Three Lions will take on the host, India on 29th October at Ekana Sports City in Lucknow.
