Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine expressed his excitement about India’s performance in the upcoming ODI World Cup later this year. Craig Ervine highlighted India’s strong cricketing performance at home and acknowledged the high expectations on them as hosts of the tournament.

Zimbabwe missed out on a World Cup spot for the second consecutive time, despite their strong performance in the World Cup Qualifiers. They secured five wins in the event but failed to qualify for the World Cup as they lost to Sri Lanka and the Netherlands in their last two games.

Would Like To See Virat Kohli Scoring A Lot Of Runs – Craig Ervine

Speaking to CricketNext, Craig Ervine expressed his desire to witness Virat Kohli score a significant number of runs in the World Cup.

“I’m really excited to see how India will play in the World Cup. Obviously, we played our qualifiers here in Zimbabwe so we know the extra pressures that there might be of playing at home and the expectations of playing at home,” Ervine said.

“But I also know that India will play some of their best cricket at home. So, I think it’s going to be an exciting spectacle and I would like to see Virat Kohli scoring a lot of runs in the World Cup.”

The Men in Blue will start as one of the favorites to win the title in the upcoming World Cup. The Indian team last hosted the ODI tournament back in 2011, where the MS Dhoni-led team emerged as the winner.

Zim Afro T10 Gave An Opportunity – Craig Ervine

Ervine further mentioned that the Zim Afro T10 tournament will have a significant impact on Zimbabwean cricket by helping the development of young cricketers.

“Zim Afro T10 gave an opportunity to the young players to showcase their skills. Someone like Tadiwanashe Marumani, who played for the Samp Army, did extremely well. So, Zim Afro opened the doors for the young guys.

Possibly, they can now be in some of the other leagues as well where they wouldn’t have had the chance to feature if this T10 tournament wasn’t here. So I think not only the youngsters but everybody who was involved got a chance to network with the other players. So, it’s a great opportunity for Zimbabwe cricket and hopefully this is the start of something special.”

The Durban Qalandars secured the title in the inaugural season of the league under the leadership of Craig Ervine. The Qalandars defeated the Johannesburg Buffaloes by eight wickets in the final match of the tournament.
