The current No.1 T20I batter, Ishan Kishan, has shared valuable insights into how the India National Cricket Team coaching staff and senior cricketers handle 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Kishan answered the question in the post-match press conference after India’s thumping win over Zimbabwe on Saturday at the Harare Sports Club, Harare.
Speaking in the post match press-conference Ishan Kishan termed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as his younger brother, and the whole team tries to guide him from the mistakes he makes that all the cricketers have made at their young age in international cricket, so that he does not repeat them.
Ishan Kishan reveals how they handle Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
While speaking to the media, Ishan Kishan pointed out that players like Axar Patel, him, and Abhishek Sharma always try their best to help the boy wonder as much as possible so that he can improve his game in the future.
Kishan said, "Yes, we have tried to guide Vaibhav as much as possible in an elderly, brotherly way so that he doesn’t make those mistakes which we all have done in our formative years in international cricket. And it’s not just me but whole group like Axar Patel, Abhishek and lot others who are trying their best to help Sooryavanshi as much as we can."
India are on a three-match T20I tour in Zimbabwe, and on Saturday they won the second match as well and sealed the series after winning the game by 90 runs on the weekend. This was the first series win for Shreyas Iyer as the team India captain after losing two back-to-back series. They completely dominated the home side in both matches at Harare.
Ishan Kishan shines for India
Ishan Kishan was the hero of the match, as the No.1 T20I batter played a brilliant 81-run innings off 44 deliveries while batting first for the Men in Blue side and stitched a partnership with Shreyas Iyer of 64 runs first and then later on with Tilak Varma of 94 runs, as the latter scored 60 off 29 balls as India posted 219/5.
Coming out to chase, only Brian Bennett was the star batter for the Zimbabwe side as he scored 32 runs, and other batters went down like nine pins as the Chevrons were bowled out for the score of 129 runs. With debutant Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav picking two wickets each for the side, Abhishek Sharma picked three wickets as it was a complete all-round display by the Men in Blue.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's current form
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made his debut in England, became the youngest cricketer to play for India but did not have the best of series and was thus dropped after three matches. He was nearly in tears after scoring 42 runs in just three matches against the Three Lions.
While Sanju Samson was on rest for this series, Vaibhav took his chance in the first game itself, as the 15-year-old boy wonder smacked an 18-ball half-century in a run chase, and in the second game today he gave India a good start, scoring 20 off 9 balls.
