ICC World Cup 2023: Kapil Dev Reveals What Team India Need To Do To Win The World Cup

Former India captain Kapil Dev has said Team India will have the burden of expectations from all quarters when they play the ICC World Cup 2023 at home. Rohit Sharma & Co. will be under immense pressure to deliver in the competition that is being held entirely in India for the very first time.
The Indian team has faced severe criticism in recent times for its poor performance in ICC competitions. Team India have not won the World Cup since 2011 when MS Dhoni-led them to glory. Incidentally, India won the tournament on home soil in 2011 and will be looking to do it again later this year.

After winning the World Cup in 2011, India crashed out at the semifinal stage in 2015 and 2019. They have constantly struggled to win the knockout games and the players were heavily criticised after their failure to win the World Test Championship last month.
And as Rohit Sharma and his teammates look to end India’s long wait for an ICC trophy, Kapil Dev has opined that the hosts should tame the pressure of expectations to regain the trophy.
“I don’t know how it will pan out. They are yet to announce the team for the World Cup. India will always enter a tournament as favorites as it has been the case for a long time,” Kapil Dev was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
“It’s all about how the team comes to terms with the expectations from all sides. We have won a World Cup at home, and I am sure the team, whoever gets selected, can do it again. A World Cup is coming in four years, and I hope the players will be fully prepared,” added India’s first World Cup-winning captain.
Kapil Dev on injury struggles:
Kapil Dev boasts of a stunning record as far as his fitness is concerned. The legendary allrounder never had to take a break due to injury during his illustrious career in which he played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs. Things, however, have changed a lot in present times as several players are constantly struggling to remain injury free. One such player is India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. When asked about him, Kapil Dev said:
“My time was different as we hardly played so much cricket. Now, these players are playing some 10 months of cricket. So, managing your body is important to keep away from injuries. Everybody’s body is different and they would require individual plans to preserve their fitness.”
