ICC World Cup 2023: Sanjay Bangar Gives Wildcard Entry To Arshdeep Singh In His India WC Squad; Leaves Out Shardul Thakur

Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar picked his Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2023. The cricketer-turned-commentator gave left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh a wildcard entry into the team and surprisingly left out Shardul Thakur from his team. 

Sanjay Bangar went with the combination of five specialist batters, two wicket-keeper batters, two spin bowling all-rounders, one seam bowling all-rounder, four pacers, and one specialist spinner in his team of the ICC World Cup 2023. 

The former Indian cricketer picked captain Rohit Sharma along with Shubman Gill as two openers in the team whereas Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav are the three middle-order batters picked by him in his team. Alongside them, he also named KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan as two keeper-batters in the team. 

Sanjay Bangar picked Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel as the two spin-bowling all-rounders in the team along with vice-captain Hardik Pandya as the fast-bowling all-rounder in his 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. It’s fair to say that these three will be sure shot picks in the team because of what they have done in the last few years. 

Sanjay Bangar didn’t pick Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been dropped from the Indian team for Asia 2023, and instead went with Kuldeep Yadav as the specialist spinner in the team. Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah are the three frontline pacers in his team. 

He named Arshdeep Singh in his team instead of Shardul Thakur. The left-arm pacer hasn’t been part of the Indian ODI setup for a while and has played just a few games with his last game coming against New Zealand in November. On the other hand, Thakur has been India’s leading wicket-taker since the 2019 World Cup.
